The arcs in these sets are some of, if not my current favorite in the series. The Grand Magic Games had me cheering on Fairy Tail as if it was a live sports event, and the subsequent arc had me pretty worried about a few characters.
I have also noticed that Tyler Walker seems to be weary of the commentaries, which is understandable when there are two on every set, and set 18 just came out. I'm a bit surprised that he participates in every one of them since other directors will let actors, writers, or whoever record on their own for some commentaries. He could take a break while still keeping commentaries on the sets.

I'm probably one of the few fans who loved the Grand Magic Games arc/Eclipse Portal arc. The resolution wasn't the epic final battle people thought it was going to be, but the resolution hinted at bigger things to come and showed just how weak the main cast was against forces like the Dragons. Can't wait to buy these sets from Funimation, I'm still behind back on set 12. Need to catch up.

The ending of the GMG is its weakest part, but it's still strong, it was Fairy Tail's best arc till Tartarus.
The dub is always great, Tyler always sounds a little sleepy in commentaries.
I love Fairy Tail so it's nice to see it get praise here, so frequently it gets criticized harshly so I like it when it gets praise

I felt FT's new style was better suited for the series. The animation thankfully is a lot better in this series. A1 still cuts corners in some parts but the newer anime feels way more fateful to the manga.
I also welcome the addition of the anime's addition of blood (despite it mostly being black) but the previous series had a lot of problems and weird changes due to the lack of it. I know the timeslot is probably why it's always been a bloodless series but I'll take whatever I can get.
That said, the review pretty much nailed my thoughts on the sets. Lots of emotional scenes and great battles.

The blood isn't black when you watch the uncut DVD. They only censored it for television.

Personally I thought the GMG was one of the weakest arcs of the series. Lots of wasted potential with more than a few of the characters introduced (most notably the Twin Dragons and Kagura), and the Eclipse arc didn't really make that feeling go away. What with it's wonky time travel narrative and cop out resolution. Which we really didn't get until the AFTER the Avatar arc.
That being said I'm still going to buy the sets when the money allows. As Fairy Tail is one of the series that got me hardcore back into anime.
