Visitors Vote to Name Taiwan Zoo's Serval Pair After Kemono Friends
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The Wanpi World Safari Zoo in Tainan City, Taiwan let its visitors vote on what to name its new pair of serval cats and the results were just as nerdy as you'd expect. Zoo staff announced on Saturday that its male serval was named "Kabang" after the Kemono Friends character Kaban (which literally means 'bag' after the character's backpack). The female serval was named "Shǎbālǔ", a homonym for "Serval" to match.
Kemono Friends has found a home at zoos around the world thanks to collaboration event efforts and real-life animals. Last month, the Shanghai Zoo named its three baby servals "Tata," "Nono," and "Xixi" (pronounced "shishi"). When combined the names form "tanoshi," Serval's catchphrase.
The Tobu Zoo's Humboldt penguin Grape-kun captured hearts during its Kemono Friends event after he took a liking to the cardboard cut-out of Humboldt penguin from the series. The elderly penguin passed away in October 2017.
