1st overseas release for Famicom game originally released in 1989
Nintendo revealed via a video on Sunday that it is releasing Earthbound Beginnings (Mother) for the Wii U Virtual console in North America. The game is available now. This is the first time that Nintendo is releasing the game outside of Japan.
Nintendo also began streaming a message from Shigesato Itoi — the director, designer, and original creator for the Mother game franchise — that explains why Nintendo is releasing the game overseas now.
Nintendo had released Earthbound (Mother 2) on the Wii U Virtual Console in 2013.
Nintendo released the original Mother game for the Famicom (Nintendo Entertainment System) in 1989, followed by its sequel, Earthbound (Mother 2: Gyiyg no Gyakushū) in 1994.
