The official YouTube channel for Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine and Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine began streaming two promotional videos on Friday for the original anime DVDs (OADs) bundled with limited editions of the 58th and 59th volumes of Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail manga.
(Note: while the below video title lists the 58th volume, the video is actually a preview for the OAD in the 59th volume.)
The 58th volume included the "Natsu vs. Mavis" OAD, and it shipped on November 17. The 59th volume included the "Yōsei-tachi no Christmas" OAD, and it shipped on Friday.
The OADs were originally set to ship with the manga's 56th and 58th volumes, but were rescheduled.
The limited edition of the manga's 55th volume bundled an OAD titled "Yōsei-tachi no Batsu Game" on May 17. The OAD is based on a one-shot spinoff manga.
The manga follows the adventures of world's most notorious mage guild, Fairy Tail. The manga already inspired two television anime, several previous original video anime projects, and spinoff manga. The franchise's first anime film, Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess, opened in Japan on August 18, 2012, and Mashima announced a second film in May 2015.
The television anime series also revealed in March that a new project is in the works.
Del Rey published the first 12 volumes of the original manga in North America, and Kodansha resumed publishing the manga in English with the 13th volume in 2011. Crunchyroll streamed the second television anime into several countries as it aired in Japan, and Funimation has been releasing DVD/Blu-ray Disc sets.
