Tales of the Rays Gekijō Short Anime Reveals Cast, July 20 Premiere

The Tales of Festival 2018 event announced more information on Tales of the Rays Gekijō (Tales of the Rays Theater), the short web gag anime spinoff of the Tales of the Rays smartphone game, on Saturday. The event (and the official website for Bandai Namco's Tales of game franchise) revealed the anime's voice cast and its premiere in a July 20 marathon on the Niconico Live service. The website also began streaming a trailer:
The total length of the entire anime project is about 30 minutes, and the anime will continuously play in a loop for 24 hours, starting at 8:00 p.m. on July 20. In addition, the voice cast will appear live right after the streaming marathon. Chihiro Suzuki (Luke fon Fabre) will host the live segment, and the guests include the anime's cast members Haruka Terui (Mileena Weiss) and Jun Fukuyama (Kyle Dunamis).
The anime stars the following cast members from the franchise's various games:
- Natsuki Hanae as Ix Neve (Tales of the Rays)
- Haruka Terui as Mileena Weiss (Tales of the Rays)
- Jun Fukuyama as Kyle Dunamis (Tales of Destiny 2)
- Katsuyuki Konishi as Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia)
- Kōsuke Toriumi as Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia)
- Takahiro Sakurai as Asbel Lhant (Tales of Graces f)
- Miyuki Sawashiro as Milla Maxwell (Tales of Xillia)
- Rina Satō as Velvet Crowe (Tales of Berseria)
The Tales of the Rays game itself features new characters Ickx Neve (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) and Mileena Weiss (Haruka Terui), along with a cast of returning characters from other Tales of games. Hidenori Matsubara (Sakura Wars, In This Corner of the World) designed the characters and Takumi Miyajima (Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss) wrote the scenario. Wit Studio animated the opening theme, sequence and Alexandros performed the opening song "New Wall."
The game launched for iOS and Android devices in Japan on February 28, 2017. Bandai Namco Entertainment America released the game in English later that year, although the English version ended service on May 29.
