The anime will premiere on BS Fuji and other channels in January, and Amazon Prime Video will "exclusively" offer the early streams of the anime.
TATSUKI's fellow irodori members Yoshihisa Isa and Yūko Shiromizu serve as the animation director and art director, respectively. Yoshitada Fukuhara, the producer of the Kemono Friends anime, is credited as the animation producer.
Kemurikusa was previously an original anime released by TATSUKI's self-produced animation group irodori from 2010 to 2012. The science-fiction action story follows girls who fight with weird entities nicknamed "mushi" (bugs) and survive in a world of red fog. The previous original anime won the 24th CG Anime Contest in 2012.
TATSUKI is also directing a "hobby" anime called "Hentatsu." The fifth short debuted on July 31, and is described as the "end" of the story.
TATSUKI and irodori — which also includes Kemono Friends art director Yūko Shiromizu and Kemono Friends animation director Yoshihisa Isa — had teased a new television anime project with a flier at Comic Market in December.
TATSUKI reported last September that, per a notification from publishing and production company Kadokawa, he is no longer working on the Kemono Friends project. Soon after, the anime's official website announced that the studio Yaoyorozu would no longer be involved. Producer Yoshitada Fukuhara confirmed in December that Yaoyorozu will not return.
irodori debuted the full version of the "Keifuku-san" anime short in December. The short shipped on DVD on February 19 after a delay to meet the unexpected pre-order demand.
